Asian-owned Businesses in Uptown build community through food, art

Gov. Pritzker Visits Local Businesses to Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

CHICAGO- Today, Governor JB Pritzker and Illinois Representative Hoàn Huynh visited two Asian-owned businesses in Uptown to meet with business owners and celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. The visits build on Governor Pritzker’s efforts to support small and minority-owned businesses, including the 23,000 AAPI-owned businesses and 87,000 AAPI-solopreneurs across Illinois.

Gov. Pritzker Announces Two Appointments to Agencies

Patrick Nolan will serve as Deputy Secretary of the Illinois Department of Innovation and Technology.* Nolan is an operations professional who currently serves as Chief of Staff of the Illinois Department of Central Management Services. In this role, he supports executive coordination for the state’s $8 billion operations agency, helping manage a 400-site real estate portfolio and overseeing HR and labor relations for over 50,000 employees. Additionally, he serves as a commissioner on the state’s Budgeting for Results Commission. Prior to his work in state government, Nolan served as the Director of Analytics at the University of Chicago. Nolan earned a Bachelor of Arts from Loyola University Chicago, a Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Nolan’s appointment is effective June 16, 2025.

Trump Administration Terminates Digital Equity Program

CHICAGO- In mid-May, the Trump Administration, through U.S. Department of Commerce National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), terminated the Digital Equity Capacity Program. In Illinois, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s (DCEO) was in the process of implementing a Digital Equity Capacity Grant under this Program. This grant would have provided more than $23.7 million to Illinois organizations across the state to equip households and residents with the skills, resources, and tools needed to use high-speed internet and fully participate in Illinois’ economy.
