Cash balance nearly 9% of FY25 enacted General Funds Budget 

Illinois Reaches Record High Cash Balance, Exceeds FY24 Revenue Estimates

CHICAGO—Today Governor JB Pritzker announced that the State of Illinois ended FY24 approximately $125 million, or .2%, above projected FY24 General Funds revenue estimates. Illinois also ended the fiscal year with the highest ever General Funds cash balance, capping off another year of fiscal responsibility and stewardship as Illinois continues to regrow its fiscal portfolio and restore fiscal stability following years of mismanagement.

Also prohibits medical debt from being factored in credit report scores

Gov. Pritzker Signs Bills to Relieve Nearly $1 Billion in Medical Debt for Illinoisans

CHICAGO—Today Governor JB Pritzker signed two pieces of legislation targeted at reducing the negative impact of medical debt on Illinoisans. HB5290, the medical debt forgiveness bill, dedicates approximately $10 million in state funding to purchase outstanding Illinois medical debt with the goal of erasing nearly $1 billion of medical debt in collections for Illinois residents. SB2933 makes medical debt ineligible to be included on a credit report, an action that is also being proposed at the federal level by the Biden administration.
