Gov. Pritzker Signs Northern Illinois Transit Authority Act

CHICAGO – Today, Governor JB Pritzker signed the Northern Illinois Transit Authority (NITA) Act, SB2111, into law, marking a landmark action in modernizing Illinois’ transit system. The law creates a new regional authority to oversee CTA, Metra, and Pace, while delivering significant investments in public transit, capital projects, and tollways across the state—all without raising statewide taxes.

The Northern Illinois Transit Authority Act (SB 2111) establishes the Northern Illinois Transit Authority (NITA) to replace the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) and oversee CTA, Metra, and Pace. NITA will have expanded authority over service planning, capital projects, fare collection, and funding allocation, allowing operating divisions to focus on day-to-day operations.

Gov. Pritzker Announces One Appointment to Boards and Commissions

Dr. Dawn Brown will continue to serve as a Member of the State Board of Health.* Brown currently serves as Assistant Chair of Curricular Affairs and as Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences at Northwestern University. Before that, Brown was Assistant Professor at Governors Statue University and Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of Clinical Education at Northern Illinois University. Brown has held numerous organizational leadership roles, including Commissioner for the National Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Commission for the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy (ACAPT), Member of ACAPT’s Education Planning and Innovation Committee, and Co-Chair of the Illinois Physical Therapy Association’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Brown is currently a fellow in the 2025–2026 cohort of the American Physical Therapy Association's Academy of Education Fellowship in Higher Education Leadership. Brown earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and her Master of Physical Therapy from Northwestern University, her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Alabama State University, and her Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration from Northern Illinois University.

The funding will be distributed among community organizations in the capital area as part of the Home Illinois plan to prevent and end homelessness

Gov. Pritzker Announces $2 Million Investment in Springfield Homeless System

SPRINGFIELD – Today, Governor Pritzker and the Illinois Office to Prevent and End Homelessness announced $2 million in new investments for several community organizations in Springfield and the surrounding area to support local efforts to address and combat homelessness in Central Illinois. These investments from the Home Illinois grant exemplify the State’s commitment to reaching functional zero homelessness – a goal where the state prevents homelessness whenever possible and ensures that if homelessness does occur, it is brief, rare, and singular.
