Gov. Pritzker Announces One Appointment to Boards and Commissions
Building on a strong team of diverse experts in their fields, Governor JB Pritzker announced the following appointment in his administration

Commission on Discrimination and Hate Crimes
Mona Noriega will continue to serve as a Member of the Commission on Discrimination and Hate Crimes.* Noriega previously served as the Chair of the Illinois Human Rights Commission and as the Chair and Commissioner of the City of Chicago’s Commission on Human Relations. Under Noriega’s guidance, civil rights protections were expanded in the City of Chicago’s anti-discrimination ordinances. New changes include credit history and military status as protected categories and extended protections to gender non-conforming individuals when accessing public spaces that are private in nature. Noriega helped to open the Midwest Regional Office of Lambda Legal Defense, which protects the civil rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, and later served as its Midwest Regional Director. A seasoned community activist, Noriega was Comptroller Mendoza's 2020 LGBTQ PRIDE Honoree. Noriega earned a Bachelor of Arts from Northeastern Illinois University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
