Gov. Pritzker Announces Two Appointments to Boards and Commissions

Building on a strong team of diverse experts in their fields, Governor JB Pritzker announced the following appointments in his administration

Illinois Civil Service Commission

Vivian Robinson will continue to serve as a Member of the Illinois Civil Service Commission.* Robinson has dedicated over 30 years to serving the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services as a social worker. In recognition of her work advocating for the safety and well-being of vulnerable children in southern Illinois, she was awarded a Congressional honor in 1999. In addition to her work in child welfare, she was an active leader in AFSCME Local 1048, serving as a Trustee, Vice President, and later as President. Robinson earned a Bachelor of Science from Southeast Missouri State University and a Master of Social Work from Southern Illinois University.

Labor Advisory Board

Steven Avalos will continue to serve as a Member of the Labor Advisory Board.* Avalos has been a legal advocate for working families his entire career. He currently serves as the Vice President and Associate General Counsel of Labor and Employee Relations with Verano Holdings, where he manages external legal counsel and ensures compliance in employment matters. Previously, Avalos was the Executive Director of Labor and Employee Relations at CVS Health and Senior Director at Molson Coors Beverage Company. At Molson Coors, he successfully led the company’s strategy around collective bargaining and employee benefits and served as the chief negotiator in arbitrations and grievances proceedings across the company. An active member of his community, Avalos serves on the Board of Trustees of the Hispanic Lawyers Scholarship Fund of Illinois and on the In-House Counsel Committee for the Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois. Avalos earned a Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
