Springfield— Governor JB Pritzker released the following statement in response to the passage on concurrence of HB5290, the medical debt forgiveness bill:

"No Illinoisan should face financial ruin after receiving the medical care they need. Together, we are on track to restore financial security to hundreds of thousands of Illinoisans who are suffering under the weight of unpaid debt as they recover from illness and injury. We are continuing to lead by example in Illinois, making it clear that medical debt relief for our residents is the right choice. I am thankful to Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle for her vision on this issue and look forward to signing this bill."
