Gov. Pritzker Releases Statement on Passage of SB1289
May 27, 2024
SPRINGFIELD— Today, Governor JB Pritzker released the following statement in response to the passage of SB1289:
From day one, I have prioritized transforming Illinois into a global leader in the fight against climate change. In partnership with the General Assembly, Illinois now lays claim to some of the most ambitious and equitable climate and clean energy laws in the United States. With the passage of Senate Bill 1289, I am proud to say we are building on that monumental progress by setting nation-leading safety and environmental standards around carbon capture and sequestration while bringing thousands of new jobs and billions of dollars in investment to Illinois.
I believe our planet is worth fighting for, and that’s why we must face the existential threat of climate change head on. That’s why we have together to put forward solutions to meet our ambitious goals. I am thankful to chief bill sponsors Representative Ann Williams and Senator Laura Fine, as well as Representative Jay Hoffman and Senator Bill Cunningham, for their leadership on this critical issue, and I look forward to signing this legislation as soon as possible.
